Kempo - One of the root arts of the modern styles of karate

Karate - The art of self-defense using the whole body also uses the Empty hand, the T'ang hand or the China hand.

Jitsu - The science of, the study of karate through training the body as well as the mind.

Kempo includes grappling techniques, Tuite; vital point strikes, Kyusho Jitsu; and weapons techniques, Kobudo. These are not separate arts or additions to karate, but are contained in the original art.

Today there are many different styles of karate, these styles although related differ in philosophy and interpretation of concepts.

As such, karate is classed into 3 categories - Modern, (the karate-exercise programs) Traditional, (Kenpo and Taekwondo) and Classical, (Kempo).

Okinawan Kempo is a classical system of karate reflecting the fighting arts of the Ryukyu Islands. The techniques are those used by the ancient warriors of the Ryukyu Islands. It is these arts that separate Okinawan Kempo from the modern and Traditional forms of karate.
